Track teams compete in 3 meets over weekend

(03/31/03 5:00am)

It was a busy weekend for track and field, as team members competed in events in three cities and on two different continents. Sally Meyerhoff and Laura Stanley led a contingent of men's and women's distance runners in Palo Alto, Calif., at the Stanford Invitational, while the remainder of the teams competed in the Raleigh Relays. Meanwhile, freshman Clara Horowitz represented the United States Saturday in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Last man standing: Duke downs Wake, becomes only unbeaten team

Top national recruits arrive to meet with Goestenkors

(10/25/02 4:00am)

Two highly-regarded prospects visit Duke this weekend, Alison Bales and Brittany Hunter. Either Hunter, a 6-3 center from Brookhaven High School in Columbus Ohio, or Bales, a 6-6 center from Beavercreek, Ohio, could provide the all-ready loaded Blue Devils with a quality low-post presence. Both come to Duke highly-decorated; Hunter is ranked no. 1 by All Star Girls' high school rankings, while Bales was selected Student Sports' national Sophomore of the Year after leading her team to a state championship two years ago.

(09/02/02 4:00am)

All in all, it has been a good year for the Durham Bulls. As the organization-the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' Triple-A affiliate-celebrates its 100th anniversary, it also looks to celebrate a successful season. The Bulls, by virtue of a 7-1 victory over the Richmond Braves Friday night, clinched the International League's Southern Division title and assured themselves a playoff berth.
