In the decade before David Cutcliffe's arrival at Duke, the Blue Devils were widely known as one of the worst teams in the FBS. Now, at least according to ESPN.com, Duke once again finds itself as one of the bottom 10 teams in the country.

The best college football schools in the country all seem to have a gimmick to get the crowd wearing their school colors, like Penn State's White Out or Michigan's Maize Out. Now, if David Cutcliffe and Thaddeus Lewis have anything to say about it, Duke will be adding the "sea of blue" into the mix this season.

Any Duke fan would like to forget 2007’s one-win campaign. Lost in the chaos of that season, though, was then-junior Re’quan Boyette’s best season, as he led the team with 432 yards rushing and averaged 4.2 yards a carry.

Over the past week, all has been (relatively) quiet on the John Wall front, but did anyone expect that to last very long?

New Kentucky head coach John Calipari finally got the point guard recruit he desperately needed this week: it just wasn't John Wall.

After Xavier Henry announced his intentions to play for the Kansas Jayhawks earlier this week, Raleigh's John Wall became the consensus top uncommitted recruit in this year's class. As such, the speculation about where Wall will end up has hit a fever pitch, especially considering some reports have listed as many as eight schools that Wall is still considering, after John Calipari's defection to Kentucky threw the point guard's recruitment into flux.

Mike Krzyzewski has years of experience taking members of the sports media. But tonight, he will be taking on a new kind of animal: Stephen Colbert.

Since I received my acceptance letter from this university a year ago, I have bled Duke Blue.

Every Duke fan has heard announcers criticize Duke for its live by the three, die by the three mentality. While the strategy can be nearly unstoppable when the Blue Devils are shooting well (see: Tournament, ACC), it can easily backfire if the team is on a cold streak (see: Villanova).

After awaking to the news that Syracuse had defeated Connecticut in six overtimes last night (in reality early this morning), yesterday could go down as the craziest day of conference tournament action in recent memory. Consider this: the top two seeds in the Big 12 lost, two of the top three seeds in the Big East lost, the number five seed in the ACC lost to the conference's last place team (Georgia Tech's upset win over Clemson)... what more could you ask for as a Duke fan?

UPDATE: It may already be the 12th day of March, but college basketball fans can mark this as the date when March Madness truly began.

All season long, the Blue Devils have tolerated the talking heads of the major sports networks criticizing their lack of a true center. But if the stats have anything to say about it, Duke's upset loss to Boston College Sunday may have been due to struggles at the point guard position, which was expected to be a strength heading into this season.

Did anyone else notice the eerie similarities between No. 6 Wake Forest's last-second loss at Georgia Tech Saturday and No. 1 Duke's own loss to the Demon Deacons last Wednesday?

While all the focus on campus may be on the Duke men's dominating win over Maryland on Saturday, the Duke women certainly held their own in their win over Georgia Tech Sunday.

Brian Zoubek's playing time may be on the upswing this year, but his newfound exposure doesn't seem to have extended to the realm of college basketball announcers.

To even the most casual Duke fan, the name Kristi Toliver must sound familiar. Back in 2006, it was the 5-foot-7 Toliver's 3-pointer over 6-foot-7 Alison Bales that forced overtime in the national championship, which the Terrapins went on to win.

As Part I of The Sports Blog's ACC preview—in coordination with the release of our mammoth ACC basketball supplement, which hits newstands today—The Chronicle breaks down the best teams outside the ACC, including the ones Duke will tangle with.

As I contemplated how to use my final 600 words in this space, I mulled over three possibilities. I could write a serious and moving account of how I grew at this institution, fall back on the sarcasm that has salvaged a majority of my columns or just profess my everlasting love of Brian Zoubek.

Duke finished the regular season 26-5, ranked in the top 10 in the nation and competing for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Through all the success, though, something about this Blue Devil team seemed different from those of the past two years, when Duke earned a national title and two No. 1 seeds.

Point guard is a particularly important position in March, but Duke does not have a floor general that can fill up a traditional stat sheet. According to some of his teammates, though, Tyler Thornton’s value to the Blue Devils is not measured by points or rebounds.
