I spoke with UWIRE sports editor Jim Reedy for a few minutes Wednesday afternoon for UWIRE's March Madness blog. We chatted about whether Duke is Duke again, the keys for the Blue Devils this weekend and, of course, the emergence of Gerald Henderson, Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler as this team's stars. Enjoy!

Wondering how Taylor King, who transferred to Villanova from Duke after last season, feels about Thursday's Sweet 16 matchup? I caught up with King Tuesday night for a story in Thursday's print edition, and here's an excerpt of the conversation, in anticipation of Thursday's short feature.

We knew Joe Alleva must have been somewhere in the Greensboro Coliseum Saturday as his LSU Tigers played a team he's quite familiar with: North Carolina. But until he wrote a letter to The Chronicle, we didn't put it together that it must have been oddly surreal for him to hear Duke fans cheering for his new school--or, more aptly, against the Tar Heels. The better question: How many LSU fans stayed to root for Duke, and was Alleva one of them?

Friday wasn't a good day for the ACC, and Saturday started out just as ominously for the league—until its two best teams played, that is.

Duke fans had a glimmer of hope that No. 1 Pittsburgh would lose to No. 8 Oklahoma State Sunday, but the Panthers recovered in the last minute to advance to the Sweet 16 in Boston Thursday. Top-seeded Pittsburgh will play Xavier, which beat No. 12 Wisconsin to join Duke and Villanova in Beantown.

In case you've been plopped on your couch for the last 24 hours: Barack Obama went on ESPN Wednesday to reveal his bracket. Mike Krzyzewski joked that the president, who eliminated Duke in the Elite 8, should focus on the economy. Matt Drudge blew the story out of proportion. Krzyzewski's comments became the it story on the political and sports blogosphere Thursday.

Vince Oghobaase, Duke's standout defensive tackle who spurned the NFL Draft to use his fifth year of eligibility, will miss the remainder of spring practice after sustaining a stress fracture in his foot Wednesday, head coach David Cutcliffe announced in a statement Thursday. Oghobaase will not require surgery.

Bryce Johnson of Sports YAPP on Appalachian State’s radio station was kind enough to invite me on his show to talk about Duke in the NCAA Tournament Wednesday night. We covered a range of topics, from Duke's X-factors to why Greg Paulus hasn't seen the court lately. Enjoy!

Seth Davis, a Sports Illustrated writer and analyst for CBS Sports, picked Pittsburgh to win the National Championship. But the Duke graduate—and former Chronicle writer—is still impressed with the Blue Devils, and he shared his observations with The Chronicle’s Ben Cohen Wednesday. Here are excerpts from that conversation, with a full Q&A running in The Chronicle's NCAA Tournament supplement Thursday:

The President of the United States likes Duke to get to the NCAA Tournament's Elite 8--but even his allegiance to his body man, Reggie Love, couldn't convince him that the Blue Devils would advance any farther.

In a quirky but intriguing essay for Slate, Chris Wilson writes about the phenomenon of crowdsourcing an NCAA Tournament bracket, which basically means following the wisdom of the crowd, making a few tweaks to the bracket and hoping you distinguish yourself enough from everyone else.
