Duke softball is in uncharted territory.
While Coach K’s Duke team faces an uncertain future, his former protégés are succeeding in the NBA like never before.
The energy permeating from Duke’s grit and will to finish strong held No. 7 Virginia to 0-5 shooting and zero points as the game wound to a nail-biting conclusion and a first-rate win.
The upcoming campaign poses some interesting questions regarding starting pitching and bench depth, but Duke looks ready to plunge into a heavy dose of ACC competition.
Duke is, almost inexplicably, ready to mount a challenge for the ACC crown.
The frontcourts of each team feature the leading scorer for both Duke and North Carolina.
“The more hungry team is going to win,” Steward said. “This game we gotta be serious. Strictly business, no goofing off, nothing.”
Head coach Marissa Young hopes to use her program’s historic 2020 campaign as a springboard for the program entering the 2021 season.
“When you go through adversity, you're going to come out on the other side with a bright light if you're the right type of people,” Cutcliffe said. “And I do believe we have the right type.”
Duke is making it interesting in Tallahassee, as its second quarter comeback puts them within striking distance.
