Aside from the small, close atmosphere and annoying fans, one of the staples of Cameron Indoor Stadium And, although ACC rivals can still look forward to the famous Cameron Crazies every time they visit the 9,314-person arena they will no longer have to worry about its sweltering conditions. The project to add air conditioning to Cameron has been completed, but the University will not host an official event in the arena until the second annual All-Star Charity Game. However, coach Mike Krzyzewski said that the air conditioning had been particularly useful 3keeping everyone fresh2 during the hot summer days of basketball camp. The Hall of Famer also added that this was only one in a series of steps to improve the famous arena. He said that new windows, coming possibly as early as the beginning of school, and, by next year, a new concourse floor were also in the works. Finally, Krzyzewski said that he hopes to see a few additions to the Hall of Honors, most notably displays dedicated to Duke1s national players of the year. Both the men1s a women1s teams have 3so many beautiful things, like Wooden awards and Naismith awards, but you can1t see them,2 he said 3It creates an atmosphere that1s conducive to excellence,2 Krzyzewski said. 3It1s kind of like when you have a beautiful home. Beautiful homes don1t have 35 knickknacks around, they have five, but they1re really good.2 Dunleavy, Williams officially pros Mike Dunleavy and Jay Williams have signed three-year deals with their respective teams after being back-to-back picks in the NBA Draft June 26 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Williams was drafted No. 2 by the Chicago Bulls, while the Golden State Warriors used their third selection on Dunleavy. It was only the second time in history that two teammates have gone in the top-three picks in the draft. 3To have that honor of two guys picked in the top three says a lot for Duke, Coach K and our program,2 Dunleavy said. 3I can tell you when we came in as freshmen to think in three years we would be here, I certainly didn1t envision it.2 Bill Duffy, Williams1 agent, said that his deal was worth close to $10 million, Golden State would not discuss Dunleavy1s deal, only saying that it was in line with the rookie pay scale. Last season1s No. 3 pick, Memphis forward Pau Gasol, signed a contract worth $9.6 million over three season. Both players began their professional career this week playing in the NBA summer league. Williams is playing in Salt Lake City, while Dunleavy will go to Long Beach. Forward Carlos Boozer was also selected as the 35th pick in the draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, since the Juneau, Alaska native was not selected until the second round, he does not receive an automatic contract. He must try-out for and make the Cavalier team before sitting down at the bargaining table. Sanders goes to court After being charged with assaulting a female, men1s basketball player Casey Sanders will have those charges dropped pending his compliance with a court-ordered deferred prosecution agreement. Under the terms of the deal the Tampa, Fla., native must admit his guilt while staying clear of all offenses, save minor traffic violations, for the duration of the agreement. He must also remain in school or find full-time employment and refrain from harassing, threatening or assaulting the witness or the victim. Finally, Sanders must undergo a domestic violence, substance abuse and mental health evaluation by President Emeritus Keith Brodie, who is a member of the medical school staff, and comply with any treatment. Both Brodie and Sanders declined to comment on the issue. Brushing up on Spanish Instead of spending the summer months playing on various United States national teams throughout the world Actually, the pair are taking intensive Spanish classes that, Duhon said, meet up to eight hours a day. At the end of the program, which is open to all students, two foreign language credits will be awarded to each student, leaving them only one semester 3I1m kind of scared,2 said Duhon, who added that he went into the first day of class speaking no Spanish. 3It1s going to be interesting. It1s a new program, and we1re kind of like the test tube dummies.2 The program will help ease the work load on the men1s basketball players, who under the new curriculum must take three foreign language credits. By taking two of the three credits in the summer and the one in the fall, the players can learn the language in a comprehensive manner, without having to struggle with it during the heart of the season, when they miss a great deal of classes. 3It1s really the only way our guys can be treated fairly for language,2 Krzyzewski said. 3I think its a great thing for all students, but especially our guys.2 All-Star Charity Game Set Duke will host its second annual All-Star Charity Hoopla Aug. 22 and 23, culminating in the All-Star Charity Game Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. in Cameron. This year1s game will feature Shane Battier, Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy and others. Unlike last year1s festivities, former Blue Devil stars are encouraged to invite NBA friends and teammates, who will make up the opposing team. The festivities will also include a roast of Krzyzewski, a charity auction and a golf outing. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Duke/Durham Neighborhood Partnership Initiative and the Emily Krzyzewski Family Life Center.
