You have been through it before. It is late at night and you stare captivated at your computer screen. Your heart is beating faster as your mouse navigates the site. "When you graduated from high school did you get a book by Dr. Seuss called, Oh the Places You Will Go? That has to stop. When I traveled after college I brought a journal and wrote and drew pictures in it every day. That journal said who I was. It was a reflection of my life."

It seems almost surreal that contemporary dance celebrity Ronald K. Brown has been frequenting campus to choreograph a piece for Duke students. In addition to his own dance company, Evidence, Brown has choreographed works for Alvin Ailey [see neighboring story], Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Jeune ballet d'Afrique Noire and countless others. Brown is the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He has recently been heralded as one of the most profound choreographers of the modern dance generation by the New York Times. Fiercely in demand as a choreographer, Duke and the surrounding communities have eagerly awaited his arrival.

For the unenlightened the word Lush is synonymous with curvy sex-goddesses and drunks. But we at Recess know that it's also an international bath product/cosmetics phenomenon located in over thirty countries. Shopping at Lush is sensory overload. Soap blocks the size of televisions are everywhere. How much do you want? The Lush employee will be happy to slice off the precise amount, and if you're too eco-friendly for packaging, they'll be happy to wrap it in recycled paper. Most things this environmentally PC sacrifice spunk and glamour--Lush doesn't for a moment. If a typical Bath and Bodyworks store is Abercombie, then Lush is Prada (sans the price).

The prospect of taking a college music class can be quite frightening to someone who has not studied the piano or the violin for the last twelve years. It is because of this that the Djembe drumming class, comprised primarily of non-music majors, has seen a swell of success since its inception in the spring of '98.

A typical Friday night leaves the average Duke girl staring forlornly into her already overstuffed closet and whining "I have nothing to wear!" The solution to this temporary fashion setback usually finds itself in the form of her favorite jeans or mini skirt. What if the fashion emergency is not a Friday night, but a Wednesday morning interview with an investment banking firm?

The quintessential Hollywood kiss used to involve a man, a woman, a sunset and a full-piece orchestra. It took Britney and Madonna sucking face at the VMAs for us to realize that the classic kiss has had a makeover. The new trend toward same sex kissing has inspired us to compile a prurient little list of our very favorite same-sex kisses.

When Tom Newby was a bachelor, his apartment was decorated with Sports Illustrated photos. In an attempt to upgrade his décor, he visited an art gallery in New York City and forked over $75 for two framed Picasso and Segal posters, and proudly displayed them on his wall. But soon posters gave way to prints, and Newby's love of art grew from there. Twenty-five years later, Newby has lent his impressive collection of hot contemporary artwork to be displayed at DUMA's "Art Stars" exhibit.

For most of us, our college living spaces are the first chances we've had to go Christopher Lowell in our own bedrooms, but if I see one more person with a Pink Floyd "The Wall" poster or a ubiquitous Van Gogh print I'm afraid I might have to agree with those who criticize Dukies for their proclivity toward conformity. So for those of you who are still hanging your "safe" DMB posters on your doors, this article is for you. Here is a compilation of some of the very coolest things Dukies have done to their rooms, apartments and off-campus homes.

The name Duke University conjures up images of a national championship basketball team and an internationally renowned medical center. If University administrators get their wish, a world-class art museum could be added to that list within a few years.
