Alex Murphy transferred to Florida in the middle of the 2013-14 season and will finish his career at Northeastern.

Former Duke forward Alex Murphy has received a sixth year of eligibility after leaving Durham for Florida and will finish his career at Northeastern, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported Tuesday afternoon.

Murphy started his career at Duke before suffering an early-season concussion and redshirting in 2011-12. He played in 31 games the following season, averaging 2.1 points in 6.3 minutes per contest.

In December 2013, the Wakefield, R.I., native announced he would transfer to Florida. After sitting out the rest of the 2013-14 season, the 6-foot-8 forward played in 23 games for the Gators in 2014-15, averaging 5.1 points per game.

The former top-50 recruit suffered another injury in a Florida preseason game last year when he tore his plantar fascia. That injury sidelined Murphy for almost the entire season before he asked the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility with help from Gator coach Mike White—the son of Kevin White, Duke's vice president and director of athletics—according to Hoops Scoop's Kevin Brockway, and his request was granted.
