Duke hosts Durham City Council and mayoral candidate forum

Election day is Nov. 7, and a primary election Oct. 10 will narrow the field down to two mayoral candidates and six City Council candidates.
The Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gives the state a C- for its gun laws, noting that the state does not have universal background check requirements, extreme risk protection orders and minimum age restrictions.
Some Duke students, including the dual-campus Robertson Scholars, also take classes at UNC and regularly travel between campuses.
All residence halls and apartments will close on May 8 at 12 p.m.
Crittenden hopes to “understand who we are to each other” in the Duke community, broaden engagement with the Durham community, and strengthen wellness resources.
As a Young Trustee finalist, senior Sydney Hunt hopes to increase accessibility to resources within Duke, address the impacts of technological evolution on the University and ultimately give back to the school that has provided much for her.
Duke lifted its classroom mask mandate in September 2022. As local cases rose in January, Duke said the mandate could return if levels remained high. Duke ultimately did not return to a mandate, though faculty members can still request that students wear masks in their classrooms.

Family Weekend holds a variety of opportunities for students and their families to experience Duke’s campus life from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16.
As the risk of monkeypox community transmission is low, Duke currently has no operations or program changes planned.
