Outgoing Global Health Institute director Michael Merson reflects on his post, institute's growth

Michael Merson, Wolfgang Joklik Professor of Global Health, is the founding director of the Duke Global Health Institute. Authoring over 175 articles, Merson primarily researched disease prevention, most recently focusing on HIV policy and prevention. Merson will step down from that post on June 30, but will stay involved in Duke's Office of Global Affairs. The Chronicle communicated by email with Merson about his original vision for the Institute and what his new role will look like. This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

New National Academy of Science member discusses teaching techniques, research on human uniqueness

Michael Tomasello, James F. Bonk professor of psychology and neuroscience, was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and National Academy of Science. Tomasello received his Bachelors of Art from Duke in 1972 and his Ph.D from University of Georgia at Athens in 1980. The Chronicle sat down with him to talk about his work and career. Duke students bring virtual reality to Moogfest

A group of Duke students have re-envisioned the traditional concert experience. ‘Perspective'—a virtual reality installation—showcases a Nona Hendryx concert at Moogfest, a music and technology festival in Durham, from four different perspectives. Created by a board of 10 Duke students, 'Perspective' was available last Saturday and Sunday in Bullpen, which also houses the Duke Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative downtown.
