(11/12/22 9:31pm)

DAVIDSON, N.C.—The Blue Devils traveled to Belk Arena Saturday to face off against Davidson in their first away game of the season. Coming off of a lopsided victory against Charleston Southern in which six Blue Devils scored in double digits and the team reached 100 points for the first time since 2016, Duke found itself in a defensive battle against the Wildcats.

Go to class. Or don’t. It really shouldn’t matter.

My morning routine includes one of those UV sun lamps that helps with seasonal depression and, in my case, sleep drunkenness from my Delayed Circadian Rhythm sleep-wake cycle. It’s called a Happy Lamp, and it has 4.5 stars on Amazon based on reviews from 7,545 people. I also have a small whiteboard on the left side of my bathroom with a list of get-ready items: put on clothes, take meds, contacts, deodorant, Oh my god please brush your teeth, Lily pack your damn lunch. I set ten alarms, each for fifteen-second increments; my contacts and medication are in a neat pile next to my outfit on my bedside table.

One player set up her phone and played the team’s postgame song, “Seven Nation Army” by The White Stripes. Just like any other victory from that season, they screamed and jumped with excitement to celebrate as the iconic guitar riff played.

Thank You, Niko

As we approach Thanksgiving, I am reminded of the old gospel song that says, “Every day is a day of thanksgiving!”, so today I want to give thanks to God for what I have learned from my dog Niko. I can’t believe that I’m actually writing this—the dean of Duke University Chapel is reflecting on not some theological or religious treatise but instead his dog!

‘Moonage Daydream’ review: Can you hear me, Major Tom?

(11/11/22 5:51am)

“Documentary is cinema,” said filmmaker Laura Poitras when she won the Golden Lion in September for her own documentary, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” at the Venice Film Festival. Stirring validation. But take a look around at the state of the form, and it's hard to see documentaries as scrappy and underappreciated works in need of being uplifted. Poitras is right, and the comment is a vital one, but documentaries right now are very capable of speaking for themselves.
