War on the big screen

American armed forces are currently fighting in a military theater thousands of miles from home. They sail the Arabian Sea, they fly over South Asia, and a select few are dropped onto Afghan soil. Soon, however, American soldiers will light up theaters across the United States, as Hollywood prepares to release a plethora of big budget motion pictures depicting military conflicts past and present.

Sheana Mosch enters this season at the halfway point of her Duke career. After two years as a complementary player, the junior co-captain will now be expected to help fill the tremendous scoring and leadership voids left after the graduation of first team Kodak All-American Georgia Schweitzer.




Duke defeats FIU after being chomped by Gators

The women's soccer team competed twice over Fall Break, opening with 3-0 loss to Florida Friday evening, but then rebounding Sunday to beat Florida International 2-1. Against FIU (7-3, 2-1), Alison Sanders provided both goals, and the Blue Devils (5-7) managed to withstand a late Golden Panther run to hold on and snap a four-game losing streak.


Blue Devils stung by Yellow Jackets 37-10 in dreary Homecoming affair

Duke dropped its 17th straight game Saturday, losing 37-10 to No. 17 Georgia Tech. A scoring surge late in the second quarter enabled the Blue Devils (0-5, 0-3 in the ACC) to be within a touchdown at halftime, but Georgia Tech (4-1, 1-1) scored on its first four second-half possessions, dashing Duke's hopes for an upset.













Men's lax season ends with 12-10 loss

BALTIMORE -- Unable to overcome an early three-goal deficit, the men's lacrosse team ended its season in disappointing fashion Saturday. The Blue Devils fell 12-10 to Towson University in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Although they managed to tie the score on three separate occasions, the Blue Devils could never seize an outright lead over the sixth-seeded Tigers, who improved to 13-3 and will move on to face Maryland in the second round.
