Football and passion

Early Sunday morning, after a night of dancing, drinks and late-night roadside burgers, a couple of friends and I hailed a taxi back to campus, eager to rest our tired bodies and spend the next twenty-four hours recuperating before Monday classes. Minus the Irish rain, which I had become all too familiar with, the scene was no different than one I have experienced dozens of times post-Shooters in Durham. However, to ensure that I would be ready for academic pursuits the following day, I needed to preserve the full integrity of my accustomed weekend ritual—even whilst abroad.


Arm in arm

My next column will be penned on the banks of the River Liffey. In a pub. With a pint of Guinness beside me. As the warm smell of salt-sprinkled soda bread tickles the nostrils. And Dubliners merrily proclaim the words of some historically relevant folk song, “Arm in arm.” It’s a nice vision.


Study abroad

Is there such a thing as an original idea? Is my begging of this question original in nature? I ask because I recall a scene in the movie “Inception” when Arthur explains why the process of inception is impossible to Mr. Saito. Arthur says, “[One’s] mind can always trace the genesis of an idea—true inspiration is impossible to fake.”
















Reliance on the long ball propels Blue Devils Saturday

To say that 2016 has been a streaky year for the Blue Devils would be an understatement. Duke’s ACC record, in part, consists of a three-game winning streak, a three-game losing streak and now a two-game winning streak. The Blue Devils’ ledger is the result of a team that relies on the streakiest aspect of the game—shooting—and, in particular, shooting from behind the arc.
