We've been waiting since we first heard about the project in June, and now it's finally here: "The Battle For Tobacco Road," HBO's documentary about the Duke-North Carolina rivalry, premieres Sunday at The Carolina theater in Durham before airing on HBO Feb. 23. Expected to be at the premiere are some of the biggest names in the rivalry--and, somehow, yours truly, who will be offering some scenes from the day on this very blog.
It was the Blue Devils' worst loss since 1990 and lowest scoring output since 1995, when they posted 44 points at Clemson, and while the late start might not have changed the Blue Devils' effort, it may have affected reporters, battling deadline more than ever.
One day after signing 27 recruits to play for Duke, head coach David Cutcliffe transformed into a disciplinarian again.
It was an "embarrassing" night for the Blue Devils, and, not surprisingly, the Twitterati suffered with the team.

Wait for the 0:41 mark. You know what's coming. (And why the Cameron Crazies start wiggling their spirit fingers is beyond me. You would think they would know when to appreciate a good, old-fashioned Rickrolling.)

The Twitterati were sad after Duke's loss to Wake Forest Thursday. But don't fret! Everyone was happy again after the Blue Devils re-found their form Sunday at home.
Gerald Henderson had many reasons to smile after Sunday's 79-54 Duke win over Virginia. He led Duke scorers with 18 points for the sixth time in seven games, and, of course, the Blue Devils had won.

Former Blue Devil Mike Grella made an auspicious debut overseas, scoring a hat trick in his first game with English League One's Leeds United, and it appears that he might extend his stay abroad.
That's all for this week, folks. Enjoy the weekend, and check back for basketball coverage along the way.

For its paltry recent football tradition, Duke has sent a surprisingly respectable contingent to the Super Bowl in recent years. 2008 graduate Patrick Bailey will line up on special teams for the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday—so, too, will the Arizona Cardinals' Ben Patrick, who started at Duke and finished his career at Delaware—while Chicago Bears long-snapper Patrick Mannelly* represented his alma mater in the 2007 Super Bowl.
The Duke message boards have been abuzz for the past few weeks about the Blue Devils filling their schedule with N.C. Central, a Division I-AA FCS squad. The only problem with Duke hosting its cross-town rival? The Eagles are the second FCS opponent on the schedule (Richmond is the other), which means that Duke would have to win seven games to be bowl-eligible for next year. That could prove troublesome for a team that hasn't won more than six since 1994.
