Midway through the NFL season, Jamison Crowder finally broke out for Washington, among many other developments for former Blue Devils in the pros.
Jamison Crowder, WR, Washington
Eight weeks into an underwhelming encore following his breakout 2016 season, Crowder finally showed flashes of his old self for the Washington Sunday against the Cowboys. Playing in a rainstorm at home in Washington, D.C., Crowder and quarterback Kirk Cousins connected for nine receptions and 123 yards in what was easily the former Duke standout’s best performance of the season; prior to Sunday’s loss, he had totaled just 149 yards in six previous games. Though he still has not found the end zone this season, Washington—and fantasy football owners disappointed with his production thus far—are hoping the game provides a spark for him to return to his role as one of the highest achieving slot receivers in the NFL.
Laken Tomlinson, LG, San Francisco 49ers
Tomlinson made his seventh start in as many games for the 49ers against Philadelphia Sunday, but could not get winless San Francisco over the hump in a 33-10 drubbing against Eagles. Playing without two regular starters, the San Francisco offensive line struggled to keep Philadelphia out of the backfield, allowing quarterback C.J. Beathard to get sacked four times for 23 yards and failing to pave a way for the ground game, which gained only 94 total yards.
Matt Skura, LG, Baltimore Ravens
Sidelined for three weeks with an MCL sprain, Skura made his return to the Ravens starting lineup Thursday against the Dolphins. The rookie out of Cheswick, Pa., has started all four games he has played in this season for the Ravens, who have allowed 17 sacks this season but did not allow any in a 40-0 beating of Miami last Thursday. No amount of pass or run protection could have saved quarterback Joe Flacco, who was knocked from the game after a late hit from Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso. With his MCL on the mend, Skura should become a fixture once again on the Baltimore offensive line.
Vincent Rey, LB, Cincinnati Bengals
Rey nearly matched his season-high with five tackles Sunday against the hapless Colts, bringing his total on the season to 24. The Bengals; defense has been stellar this season, allowing the second-fewest yards in the league while holding opponents to just 19.3 points per game. However, they will have their work cut out for them against the Jaguars, who score the eighth most points per game in the league.
