2016 NCAA tournament preview: Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech Red Raiders

Record: (19-12, 9-9 Big 12)

Head coach: Tubby Smith (3rd season)

Season Recap: Texas Tech’s offense is the classic example of pick-your-poison. Seven Red Raiders average between 8.7 and 11.1 points per game, and they are led by senior guard Toddrick Gotcher. When Gotcher plays well, Texas Tech can hang with any team, as evidenced by upset victories against Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas and Iowa State in conference play. With a pressure defense and a careful offensive approach, the Red Raiders can wear out opposing teams.

How they make a run: Gotcher and the other Texas Tech guards are able to get into the paint, creating high-percentage scoring opportunities, and lots of perimeter passing leads to breakdowns in opposing defenses.

How they falter: The Red Raiders are gashed on the offensive boards, as Butler secures long rebounds off of misses from its perimeter shooters and destroys Texas Tech in second-chance opportunities.
