Jogger grabbed along Al Buehler trail

A jogger was grabbed from behind and pulled by an unknown suspect on the Duke Trail Wednesday morning at 7 a.m., prompting Duke police to send out a DukeAlert.

The female jogger was near Cornwallis Road and pulled away from the attacker with minor injuries. The suspect was described by the jogger as a light-skinned male in his late 20s or early 30s and medium build. He wore black pants, a black tank top, white shoes and a red baseball hat.

According to a press release from the University, the security presence on the trail—also known as the Al Buehler Trail—will be increased to patrol from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Previously, police did not surveil the area, only nearby parking lots. The force also plans to post fliers on the trail to alert joggers and find more information about this morning’s incident.

If information is found regarding this case, the Durham CrimeStoppers—a volunteer nonprofit organization that accepts anonymous crime tips and provides cash rewards—is offering a reward for details that can lead to an arrest.
