- Duke lost to Northwestern Saturday night 24-20 to fall to 1-1. But the optimism of the David Cutcliffe era has not diminished and, if anything, the loss proved more about the Blue Devils than their win over James Madison in the first week. It also, however, showed that Duke must find a way to capitalize on opportunities when they arise.
- Up this week: Navy, a team that has beaten Duke four straight years. With their vaunted triple-option offense, the Midshipmen have a knack for befuddling the Blue Devils, who will need to finally make a big play to go into their first bye week with a winning record. One storyline that might go overlooked: how will Duke's first day game change the contest? Cohen, Iles and Britton all take Duke.
- Speaking of Cutcliffe, the head coach stopped by the Marketplace Monday night to share come Coca-Colas and break down game film with about 30 freshmen. He plans to make the event a bi-weekly endeavor.
- 2008 graduate DeMarcus Nelson signed with the Golden State Warriors, his hometown team.
- The 2009 ACC baseball tournament will be held in Durham Bulls Athletic Park instead of Fenway Park--and if five Blue Devils who played on Cape Cod last summer have anything to do with it, Duke might actually make the field this year.
- Touching story of the week: Director of Athletics Kevin White talks about his relationship with the late Tim Russert.
- Another packed weekend for the Olympic sports, as men's soccer opens ACC play, women's soccer hits the road to play two Ohio teams and field hockey takes on No. 2 Wake Forest.
