Leinster for Comm. Interaction

Logan Leinster, a junior who is running unopposed for Duke Student Government Vice President of Community Interaction, has a tough act to follow. This year sophomore Joel Kliksberg has brought incredible enthusiasm and energy to the position and has done a fantastic job of improving communication among campus leaders through the Inter-Community Council.

Leinster has experience with DSG as a Senator on the Community Interaction Committee, as well as other leadership experience outside of DSG. Perhaps the best quality Leinster will bring to the job is her ability to criticize DSG. She recognizes that DSG has problems successfully communicating with students and with being held accountable. It is important that Leinster sees these weaknesses, since she will be in a prime position to help remedy the problems. ICC has done a lot to improve communication, and it is up to Leinster to continue to foster communication among campus organizations and between DSG and students.

Leinster plans to focus on the relationship between the Duke and the Durham communities. She hopes to create a centralized website where students can find information about the city as well as local job and volunteer opportunities. This website will make is easier for students to become involved in the Durham community.

A particularly important aspect of the Duke-Durham relationship remains the conflict between Duke students living off East Campus and the Durham residents of those neighborhoods. Leinster wants to educate students about the community they are living in and build a mutual understanding between the two groups. She hopes that by building respect, the conflict that typically arises can be quelled.

The Chronicle endorses Logan Leinster for VP of Community Interaction.
