Shuttles to polls offered today

Voting.

On the surface, today is just another Tuesday. Another day to go to class or skip class for a nap and another day to put off research on that project due in November (wait, it is already Nov. 2). But, for our nation, this Tuesday means a lot more. This is a day in which every registered voter has an opportunity to impact and shape the future of the next four years and even more, the future of our country.

While we recognize that most of us are too busy and too stretched for time, we thought that one way to encourage student voting would be to provide a way for students to get to the polls. The Community Service Center in partnership with Duke Student Government and Campus Council has organized just this service.

From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. shuttles will be running from the West Campus bus stop and the bus stop on Anderson (close to Uncle Harry’s) to the Crest St. poll off of Erwin Road. The shuttles will pick up on the half hour and will continue to run a full 30 minutes after the polls close for the day, which is at 7:30 p.m. so plan accordingly. If you live on West or Central Campus, this is the poll where you will vote. If you are a resident of East Campus, your poll is at Watts Elementary School, one block from East Campus behind the Marketplace.

Don’t waste your time hiking to the blue zone or dealing with parking and road rage. Just hop on a Duke shuttle van at any half hour and go to the poll to cast your vote. We learned last election that one vote can make a difference, a difference that has the possibility to change the outcome of this election. There are no excuses, but instead only opportunities to participate in our ever-changing and always exciting democracy. We challenge you to take this chance
