CC calls for cable, phone services

Campus Council unanimously approved a resolution Thursday night recommending that the University provide universal phone and cable services for dormitory rooms. Under the resolution, submitted by communications coordinator Pasha Majdi, students will decide on a room-by-room basis if they choose to opt out of the services.

The resolution also calls for the Office of Information Technology to automatically set-up each student's voice-mail box with a standard automated greeting at the beginning of the school year--a response to the growing realization that many students have failed to program their voice-mail boxes and cannot be contacted easily.

Campus Council President Anthony Vitarelli explained that Eddie Hull, director of residence life and housing services, has said the new plan would not be feasible for next year because of the necessary advance planning and rent forecast budgeting. Vitarelli remained optimistic that the phone and cable bundling would be successful in time for the 2005-2006 school year. "What the vote means is that in two years, [the program] will happen," he said.
