Overhead gone undercover

An employee reported the theft of a $2,500 Epson LCD overhead projector from a classroom at Hudson Hall between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Oct. 8. The projector was stolen by removing the mounting bracket and cutting the power cord.

Laptops pilfered

A student reported the theft of her $2,100 Toshiba/Model-Satellite laptop computer, serial number Y0079843U. The student said she left the computer in secured carrel 2014 in Perkins Library at 6 p.m. Oct. 9. When she returned at 1:10 p.m. Oct. 12 she found the carrel door standing open and her computer missing. It is believed that someone used a chair that was outside the carrel to climb over the carrel wall.

An employee reported that between some unknown time Sept. 22 and 1:48 p.m. Oct. 13 someone entered his secured carrel 2047 in Perkins Library and stole his $275 gray British laptop computer. There were no signs of forced entry.

Photograph plays hooky

An employee reported the theft of a $1,000 framed photograph of the Duke Campus from the wall near Clinic 1-D in the Duke Clinic Building. The photo was last seen in place on the wall at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2 and was found missing at 10:22 a.m. Oct. 6.

Cars plundered

A student reported that his 1998 Honda Civic was broken into at the Alumni Overflow Lot on University Road between 10 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Oct. 8. Entry was gained by breaking out the $200 rear passenger vent window. A $150 Sony CD player was stolen.

A visitor reported a break-in to her 2003 Cadillac at the Duke Gardens parking lot between 4:43 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. Oct. 9. Entry was gained by breaking the $200 passenger side window. The victim reported that her purse and contents, valued at $250, were stolen in the break-in.

Palm Pilot absent

An employee reported the theft of a $200 Palm Pilot personal organizer from the Duke Hospital Emergency Department. The employee reported that she last saw the Palm Pilot at 4:50 p.m. Oct. 11 on a desk in the ED. She realized the device was missing at 6 p.m. Oct. 11.

Microwave missing

A construction employee reported that between 5 p.m. Oct. 10 and 7:10 a.m. Oct. 13 someone broke into a construction trailer located at a Washington Duke Inn construction site. A $40 microwave was stolen.

Bike strays from rack

An employee reported that his $60 gray mountain bike was stolen from the bike rack at the Medical Sciences Research Building between 4 p.m. Oct. 3 and 8 a.m. Oct. 8. The employee said his bike was locked to the bike rack.

Change purse changes owners

A visitor reported the theft of a change purse containing $50 from a patient room at Duke Hospital. The visitor reported that the purse was in a drawer in the room at 8 p.m. Oct. 7 and was found missing at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 8.

Wallet a no-show

An employee reported that between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 13 he placed his $30 wallet, containing his driver's license and Durham County Library Card, on a rolling cart in 5100 Duke North. Upon his return he found the wallet missing.

Thief satisfies sweet tooth

An employee reported the theft of $20 worth of candy bars from the Pink Smock gift shop at Duke Hospital. The employee said she noticed the theft when she opened the gift shop at 9 a.m. Oct. 9. The employee said an unknown suspect used a coat hanger to pull the box of candy bars close to the shop gate, then removed the candy through the gate.

DukeCard used fraudulently

A student reported the fraudulent use of her DukeCard. The student reported that she left her card in a copying machine in Perkins Library at 2 p.m. Oct. 8. When she went to retrieve the card a few minutes later, it was missing. The student later found out the card had been used to make purchases valued at $14 at the West Union.
