Letter to the Editor: Dr. Mezzatesta has a bright future ahead

As I contemplated the recent Chronicle article regarding the Nasher Museum, I thought of Michael Mezzatesta's strong qualifications fro a museum director as he seeks new worlds to conquer. I think it is important to look ahead on behalf of those who leave our campus.

Michael has impeccable credentials including a Ph.D. from the prestigious School of Fine Arts at New York University. He was one of the first museum directors to feature shows by student by student curators.

Several of the exhibitions he attracted were recognized nationally. The Louis Kahn show, for example, went from Duke to Harvard. I even remember having seen his name on a huge poster at the Fort Belvedere in Florence as one of the organizers of its Bernini exhibit. I hope that when he is recruited by another institution, Michael will look back with pride on the remarkble museum at Duke for which he worked so enthusiastically for almost 17 years.
