Three vendors to join points

Students will enjoy a wider variety of order-in options next semester when Bread & Kabob, Cafe Parizade and International Delights all join the Merchants-on-Points program.

Jim Wulforst, director of dining services, said the addition of the restaurants will keep with the University's goal of adding more diverse dining choices.

"The trend is to provide international flavor that we cannot provide on campus," he said.

Parizade--a four-star restaurant in Erwin Square--will become the fourth restaurant partnering with Devil's Delivery Service, joining George's Garage, Cattleman's and Bull City Grill.

Although students will not be able to order from any of the restaurants until the fall, DDS has been in discussion with Parizade owners for almost a year, said DDS CEO Jeremy Morgan. The student-owned group secured a contract with the restaurant last September, but the Duke University Student Dining Advisory Committee did not approve the agreement until the week before spring break.

Morgan said DUSDAC wanted to ensure the menu was different enough from that of George's--which has the same owner as Parizade--and that there was enough student interest. He added that the Parizade menu will offer more entrees, desserts and seafood choices than George's.

"It's good for people who are interested in having a more healthy diet," said Morgan, a junior. "A lot of the options we have now are more like sandwiches and pizzas, while Parizade will have some healthier choices like seafood."

In designing its delivery menu, Parizade made an effort to meet special dietary needs, like vegetarianism, said Parizade manager Julian Jahoo. He added that one reason for adding delivery service is that George's has been overwhelmed with orders and delivery time is often long.

DDS expects that Parizade will bring more business and plans to hire more drivers in response, DDS shareholder and sophomore Scott Kohler said.

International Delights manager Ziad Lobbad said the Ninth Street eatery has refused to go on points in the past, but now has the staff to handle the demand.

"Over the years all the students have been begging us to go on points. Students claim it will triple our business," Lobbad said. "We have completely different food than what they otherwise have on campus."

International Delights offers international meals, including gyros, falafel and baklava, while Bread & Kabob, located on Main Street, serves Middle Eastern fare.

"I think it's great because I get sick of the food on campus, so this adds more variety," freshman Alex Mahoney said.
