Unidentified man arrested Sunday

From staff reports

Public Safety officers arrested a man at the West Campus bus stop approaching students in apparent panhandling attempts late Sunday morning.

When officers tried approaching the man, he was very hostile and uncooperative, refused to identify himself and did not explain his purpose on campus, said Capt. Sarah Minnis of Public Safety in a statement.

Officers arrested and charged the man with resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer. Upon further search, officers noticed the subject to be carrying drug paraphernalia and marijuana. The man was charged with possession of marijuana and ordered to be incarcerated at the Durham County Jail under $500 secured bond until he produced identification.

K-ville camper assaulted: At about 3 a.m. Sunday, a student was assaulted on his way back to his dorm from camping out for the basketball game.

The student said that earlier that night, he and two of his friends had encountered four people in K-ville who were acting rudely to them. When the student later saw the four, he asked for an apology. Instead of shaking the student's outstretched hand, the subjects punched the student several times in the face. The student was taken to the emergency room to be treated for his injuries, Minnis said.

Public Safety is currently investigating the case.

Car broken into: Early Sunday morning, a student's car parked at The Kudzu Tavern parking lot was burglarized. A Sony car stereo CD player, several CDs and a navy blue varsity letter jacket were stolen, totaling approximately $540 in value.

The student also reported to Public Safety about $500 worth in damages to the car. There are no suspects in the case.

Vehicle damaged: On Saturday night, at about 6:30 p.m., a resident of 204 Alexander St. on Central Campus noticed that someone had walked on top of her car from front to rear.

The car is a 1991 Mazda, and had footprints on the hood and the top, a dented sunroof and cracked and broken left side door mirror.

Damage is estimated at around $200.
