Building a better Duke community

(03/23/18 4:00am)

Over the previous DSG election cycle, one campaign item consistently stood out in almost every candidate’s platform: housing reform. It seems that for many students, the fact that Duke’s current housing system leaves much to be desired has catalyzed conversations centered on reorienting residential life on campus. In the past month alone, campus reactions to Duke’s new random roommate policy, the advocacy of Duke Students for Housing Reform as well as Duke senior Chris Molthrop’s guest column detailing Cooper’s intensely degrading rush process have received editorial attention in The Chronicle.

Vote Blitz for VP of RB

(03/09/18 5:00am)

Today, Duke undergraduates will go to the polls to decide who will be DSG’s newest Vice President for Resume-Building. The new position of VP of RB is a direct creation of DSG’s Resume-Boosting Committee, which decided to expand the executive board starting this year as a way for the organization to include more civic-minded perspectives. On the ballot for the new DSG position are three extremely talented peers who all wish to make a difference in the world through student government: juniors Mikayla Johnson, Alex Blitz and first-year Paul Jones. After carefully considering the unique, extremely original platforms of each candidate, we strongly encourage the student body to rank Alex Blitz first when voting for VP of RB today. His platform, one that emphasizes inclusion and transparency, is one that we ultimately found to be extremely visionary and completely achievable within the span of one academic year.

Mi Gente endorses Kristina Smith for DSG President

(03/08/18 5:37am)

On Sunday, March 4, Mi Gente’s Executive Board met with all of the DSG Presidential candidates and listened to their platforms. We believe every candidate possesses the experience and drive needed to excel as DSG President; however, we were particularly impressed by Kristina Smith’s previous achievements. We’re confident her experience and strong vision for what DSG can do for the undergraduate population will translate into effective change.
