Head coach Christine Engel resigned Tuesday after joining the Duke coaching staff in August 2014.

Head women's cross country coach and assistant track and field coach Christine Engel has resigned, the University announced Tuesday afternoon in a release.

Engel joined Duke's coaching staff in August 2014 and helped senior Anima Banks earn first team All-America honors and a second-place finish at the ACC championships during the 2016 indoor track and field season. She also guided two women's distance runners to All-ACC honors at the 2015 indoor conference meet.

Norm Ogilvie, Duke's director of track and field, will take on Engel's responsibilities with women's distance runners for the remainder of the outdoor track and field season as a search for her replacement begins.

Brad Amersbach, sports information director for cross country, wrote in an email that Duke athletics had no further comment about Engel's departure.
