Duke closes fall schedule with comeback win

Duke entered the final round of the UNC-Greensboro Golf Collegiate Tuesday in third place. Eighteen holes later, the Blue Devils had picked up their first tournament win of the season.

Led by Adam Long, who finished the tournament tied for fourth with an even-par 216, Duke made up four strokes in the first three holes and ended up carding a four-stroke team win at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Freshman Spencer Anderson winded up tied for seventh with a 1-over 217, and senior Michael Quagliano finished tied for 13th. Quagliano's eagle and two birdies on the back nine paced his 2-under-par 70 Tuesday and boosted the Blue Devils to the win.

Clark Klaasen and Wes Roach both tied for 30th place with final scores of 8-over.

"I am very proud of our team," Duke head coach O.D. Vincent said. "The guys showed a ton of resilience and heart."

With the win, the Blue Devils head into the offseason on a high note. They don't play again until they begin spring competition in February.

"We have a lot to work on during the offseason, but this win will be tremendous motivation for the spring," Vincent said.
