Many students feel that this increase is unprecedented, and some linked the increase in police presence to the implementation of the “Good Neighbor Program,” a new initiative streamlining communication between Duke and partnered neighborhoods.
The all-day event was entirely led by student groups Chabad at Duke and Students Supporting Israel, along with Jewish Life at Duke, and took weeks to set up following the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel.
Some attendees said that trainings presented to first-years lacked information on mitigating sexual violence and mental health resources for survivors while over-emphasizing Duke’s reaction to violence only after it happened.
