5 things to know before Duke men's basketball battles Kansas at Champions Classic

(11/15/22 12:41am)

Duke will face its first real challenge Tuesday when it plays Kansas at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis. Both the sixth-ranked Jayhawks and seventh-ranked Blue Devils have blown out their first two opponents, but this matchup will be a test for both schools. Here are five things to know before the game tips off at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

(Don't) do it for the resume

(11/15/22 5:00am)

I’ve been getting very intimately acquainted with my resume recently as I navigate the very particular hell that is applying and interviewing for internships. I’ve learned how to spin the things I’ve done into an overarching narrative and individually cultivated stories, as though a page of titles, operationalized descriptions, and dates is all it takes to make a life. From there, I can reveal an employable quality about myself by breaking down these experiences into discrete situations.

Beats' picks: Will Duke men's basketball dethrone Kansas in top-10 matchup at Champions Classic?

(11/14/22 10:47pm)

After starting off its season with back-to-back wins at home, No. 7 Duke travels to Indianapolis for a Champions Classic showdown with No. 6 Kansas. Before Tuesday night's 9:30 p.m. tipoff, our beat writers make their predictions for the first top-25 matchup of the season.

‘Not in this alone’: Black students reflect on community, significance of the Mary Lou as center looks to reopen next fall

(11/14/22 3:57am)

The Mary Lou Williams Center was a place that exuded safety and warmth, sophomore Tiana Clemons said, sitting on a bright blue bench on Abele Quad. She described a typical weekday. A gentle light would stream in through the windows. Some students studied diligently; others filled the space with laughter, absorbed in lively conversation. Familiar BET shows and music played in the background. It was a place, Clemons said, that felt like home.

EXPO markers are an essential part of our education. For years, the way in which we’ve learned practically every subject has involved some adult, presumably with a teaching degree, writing information on a whiteboard, erasing it, and hoping that we remember it all. Of course, at Duke, that teaching model is no different — unless you’re a math or physics major, in which you now probably have a thin layer of yellow chalk in your lungs.

Missing out on Drake and 21 Savage's new album is not your loss

(11/14/22 12:00pm)

To be frank, I’m not a fan of Drake. Even with access to the industry's very best, he somehow manages to release underwhelming tracks at an impressive rate. Although experimental to his fans, “Honestly, Nevermind” was a 52-minute composition of mediocrely produced house-inspired beats and lazy lyrics. Rather than marinating in its critical response and searching for inspiration, less than sever months later, we’ve been introduced to an ambitious, full-length joint album with 21 Savage.

In win against Virginia Tech, Duke football puts receiving depth on full display

(11/13/22 1:57am)

Duke’s 24-7 victory Saturday against Virginia Tech was significant for many reasons for head coach Mike Elko and the Blue Devils—perhaps the best defensive performance of the season, 310 total yards for quarterback Riley Leonard, a seventh win after a combined five wins the two seasons prior. The most important, however, may be the depth they showed out wide.

And one: Kyle Filipowski tallies second double-double in Duke men's basketball's domination of USC Upstate

After each Duke men's basketball game this season, check back here for the Player of the Game and more. After the Blue Devils' 84-38 defeat of USC Upstate, the Blue Zone breaks down Kyle Filipowski's second-straight double-double and the rest of Duke's performance:
