LOS ANGELES - In the doubles competition of Sunday's NCAA Championship quarterfinals at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, the men's tennis team seemed unintimidated by the fact that its opponent, UCLA, was not only the host school for this event, but also the No. 1 seed. With 8-6 victories at both the No. 1 and 2 positions, 10th-ranked Duke captured the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead.



Men's tennis stunned by Clemson in ACC finals

NORCROSS, Ga. - It was only appropriate that in a match so close, with so many points decided by only a matter of inches, that the final ball hit by Duke's Alberto Brause would become lodged in the net. As it hung suspended in time just below the tape, the Clemson players stormed the court and mobbed teammate Bruce Li, celebrating their first Atlantic Coast Conference Championship since 1989.

When the women's basketball team trailed N.C. State by eight with 1:24 left in Wednesday night's game, it looked very much like a Wolfpack win in the making. When Duke fell behind by six with 44 seconds to go, it looked very much like an inevitable notch in the Blue Devil's loss column. And when the deficit was five with 0:22.1 remaining, it looked like this contest was over.
