After debuting in the AP poll at No. 2, then falling to No. 9 after a loss to Arizona, Duke men’s basketball remained inside the top-10 after defeating then-No. 18 Michigan State, as it remains at No. 9. The Blue Zone breaks down movement in the poll around the country:
I love Taylor Swift. In the music video for “Delicate,” she breaks free from the usual scrutiny and normative pressures to act in certain composed ways and can dance happily in the rain, as she says “you must like me for me”. What a call for authenticity! Except that she is a celebrity whose tweets and media appearances are planned and polished by a PR team.
Sportswrap is your one-stop shop for everything Duke athletics, where we’ll recap how each of Duke’s sports currently in competition performed over the last week and give a brief look ahead. Here’s our recap for the week of Nov. 13-19:
Duke rewrote the record books this weekend as the swim and dive teams traveled to their first invitationals of the season. Impressive performances in both Greensboro and Knoxville, Tenn., led to big victories and impressive new stats for the Blue Devils.
Duke had a tournament to forget at the 2023 Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, finishing ninth overall out of the 10 teams competing. After earning its first two wins of the season against Cleveland State and Kent State, the team struggled to replicate last week’s strong showing during Sunday’s tournament. Despite fielding 15 wrestlers across 10 different weight classes, only three Blue Devils won their opening-round matchups, while just two placed in the top five of their respective weight classes.
That was all she wrote.
With Duke Dining ranked first in the country in 2016 and 2017, there is no shortage of spots for good food on campus. The Chronicle asked 22 students about which campus eatery they thought was the best.
Maples Pavilion set the stage for Duke's first road test against a quality opponent, but the welcome was far from warm.
After traveling to Charlottesville Saturday afternoon, Duke football experienced a disheartening loss to Virginia. The Blue Zone is here with three key takeaways, stats and a look ahead following the Blue Devils’ defeat:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Fourth-and-16 at home in front of a sold-out crowd. 30 seconds left in regulation against North Carolina. And now the second half in Charlottesville. Despite the immense talent Duke possesses, the Blue Devils can simply not finish the job.
The Wellness Center is one of the best, but most underutilized, resources on Duke’s campus. As two first-year students during our first of many busy midterm seasons, we felt it was the perfect time to relieve our academic stress with one of the Wellness Center’s best offerings – their Moments of Mindfulness classes – while sharing our experiences with Recess readers. After looking at some of the many offerings, one of us decided to try the Restorative Yoga class and the other signed up for a Creative Writing class.
Something is rotten in the state of Oklahoma. At least, that’s true in Martin Scorsese’s new film, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which examines a conspiracy of betrayal and murder—perpetrated during the sunset of the Wild West against the Osage Native Americans of Oklahoma—that is as grotesque and far-reaching as that in Hamlet’s Denmark.
While students are heading home for Thanksgiving, Duke men’s basketball is continuing to compete, facing La Salle in its second game of the Blue Devil Challenge. The Blue Zone is here with a key player on each side ahead of the contest:
Amina Maatoug has made history once again.
The scene is set: it is a 0-0 draw in the 61st minute. Duke wants to escape what has been a rollercoaster of a game against Pittsburgh with at least a tie, but the Panthers have brought the ball downfield and are playing it out of the corner. The low cross comes in and rests at the feet of forward Louis Sahmkow, who fires on net. Julian Eyestone, the Blue Devils’ goalkeeper, splays out to make an impressive quick save.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Virginia has come out on the wrong side of five close games this season. Against the Blue Devils, it decided to finish the job.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Duke entered Saturday’s matchup with struggling Virginia looking to respond from a heartbreaking double-overtime loss against North Carolina a week ago. However, the Cavaliers have made a good account of themselves in the first half of football at Scott Stadium, and both teams are tied at 10-10 heading into the locker room:
After each Duke men's basketball game this season, check back here for the Player of the Game and more. The Blue Devils returned home Friday, defeating Bucknell 90-60, and the Blue Zone is here to break down the win:
As Duke football travels to Charlottesville, Va., to take on conference foe Virginia, the Blue Zone has some can’t-miss prop bets:
