Arts and Sciences� decision to approve only 24 faculty searches and thereby decrease the faculty size makes sense if it results in fewer, better professors, but if the funds do not exist for more faculty hires, then the resources must be spread among all of the A&S divisions.

Late-night Marketplace meals are a great addition to dining on East Campus and provide a fantastic service to freshmen. The pilot program at the Marketplace, which will offer an a la carte menu from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, could still be improved upon.

For years, not having classes on Fridays has been a part of Duke’s culture. For many students and professors, a three day weekend has become the norm, and instead of dedicating Friday to classtime, students devote the last day of the typical work week to meetings, errands and catching up on sleep.

The road to Hot Springs, Va. begins Thursday for the 20th-ranked Blue Devil men's golf team as they start play in the NCAA East Regional at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn. The competition will mark Duke's 18th overall and sixth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.

A season of relative promise for the baseball team is heading slowly down the drain. A three-game sweep by Florida State (34-19, 13-8 in the ACC) in Tallahassee, Fla., sent Duke (23-27, 7-14) to its season-high seventh straight loss and into an even less promising last week and a half of the year.

The rowing team competed at the Lexus Central/South Region Sprints at Oak Ridge, Tenn. Sunday, garnering an 11th-place finish overall. Unfortunately, however, the finish was not good enough to qualify the team for Nationals.

Despite a valiant effort against Georgia Tech last weekend, the baseball team could not pull out a win against the No. 21 Yellow Jackets (30-17, 12-5 in the ACC). After losing the first two games by a 9-8 score--one in extra innings--the Blue Devils (23-23, 7-11) did not have enough to take the third game from the league's third place team, losing 14-3.
