The rowing team competed at the Lexus Central/South Region Sprints at Oak Ridge, Tenn. Sunday, garnering an 11th-place finish overall. Unfortunately, however, the finish was not good enough to qualify the team for Nationals.
The Blue Devils, who raced in three events, the varsity eight, the second varsity eight and varsity four, collected 207 team points, good for a second-best finish among ACC teams. Additionally, Duke finished fourth among teams in the South Region, bettered by only Virginia, Tennessee and Texas.
The brightest spot for the Blue Devils over the weekend was their finish in the Second Varsity Eight, where the crew won the B Final with a time of 6:58.5, winning by a margin of three seconds. The Varsity Eight also performed well, finishing the course in 6:56.6, putting them in fifth place behind Michigan State, Notre Dame, Minnesota and Iowa.
The meet marked the career ends for six Blue Devil seniors: Amanda Adam, Jessi Batzell, Mae Joyce Gay, Carina Podgorski, Sarah Miller and Courtney Triffletti. Of the six, Gay and Adam comprised Duke's All-ACC selections this season.
