On Tuesday night, both Mike Krzyzewski and Kyle Singler seemed at a loss to explain Duke's initial inability to put up points against N.C. State. After a thrilling win over Georgetown Saturday, the Blue Devils had come out flat, inexplicably, against a Wolfpack squad fresh off an overtime victory over Georgia Tech. Duke's unsightly 29 percent shooting clip in the first half reflected the struggles of normally-reliable sophomores Singler and Nolan Smith, who were a combined 2-for-8 before the break.

NEW YORK — Coming into Sunday’s matchup against Duke, the Red Storm had played seven straight games against top-25 opponents, losing five of their last six. St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin said after the game that although his team was improving, it had been hard to see the improvement the players were making given the quality of their opponents in the second-toughest schedule in the country.
Since Maryland topped Duke March 3rd, the Blue Devils had reeled off 24 straight wins.
Duke got all it could handle when Maryland came to town Sunday night.
In 21 years, Reid Carleton had never journeyed outside the United States. On Monday, though, Carleton left for Rouen, France, where he will represent his country in the Master’U BNP Paribas collegiate tournament against the players from Belgium, France, China and Great Britain.
Two minutes and one second into last night’s game, freshman point guard Kyrie Irving was whistled for his second foul, having harassed a RedHawk player a little too closely near the sideline. Irving later admitted it was a foul he shouldn’t have committed.
Friday night was a celebration of last year’s national championship season—but also the beginning of a new one.
