Beats' picks: Will Duke football get back in the win column against Virginia in road finale?

(11/18/23 2:07pm)

After its double-overtime loss in Chapel Hill last weekend, Duke football hits the road again, traveling a little farther up to Charlottesville, Va. The Chronicle's beat writers predict whether the Blue Devils can get back on their feet against the Cavaliers:

Scouting the opponent: Duke football must contain Malik Washington in road contest against Virginia

(11/16/23 6:40am)

In a double-overtime thriller last Saturday, Duke lost a heartbreaker, surrendering the Victory Bell once again to rival North Carolina to move to 6-4 on the season. Now, the Blue Devils will look to close out the season strong in order to finish 8-4, an identical record to last year. The first step of that mission is a road trip to Charlottesville, Va., as Duke will travel to face Virginia Saturday.

Beats' picks: Can Duke football upset No. 24 North Carolina's high-flying offense on the road?

(11/11/23 5:06pm)

Duke heads to Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill Saturday night for a clash with hated rival No. 24 North Carolina, hoping to claim the Victory Bell for the first time since 2017. The Chronicle's beat writers are here with their predictions about whether the Blue Devils can get the job done on the road:

Scouting the opponent: Duke football must be wary of Maye, North Carolina receivers in Saturday showdown

(11/09/23 1:34am)

In a short week after a demoralizing loss to Louisville, Duke once again proved its resilience, knocking off Wake Forest 24-21 last Thursday night to move to 6-3 on the season, clinching bowl eligibility. While the dream of an ACC Championship berth is likely dead, the Blue Devils still have a chance to reach nine regular-season wins, one more than last year and a milestone that would offer a chance for the programs first 10-win season since 2013. That quest continues this weekend with a matchup that is sure to be a tense one, as Duke will travel to Chapel Hill Saturday for a chance to bring the Victory Bell back to Durham for the first time since 2018.

Beats' picks: Can Duke football get back to winning ways against struggling Wake Forest at home?

(11/02/23 3:13pm)

Duke returns home for the first time since mid-October with the opportunity to clinch a bowl game against Wake Forest and end its two-game slide. The Chronicle's beat writers are here to offer their predictions for a cold night on the gridiron at Wallace Wade Stadium:

Scouting the opponent: No. 20 Duke football must be on alert for Thrash's hands, Jordan's legs against Louisville

(10/26/23 12:26am)

In its biggest test of the year to date, Duke faltered, falling on the road to Florida State 38-20 after holding a 20-17 lead entering the final quarter. This loss dropped the Blue Devils to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. However, head coach Mike Elko’s squad has no time to sour on its loss, as Duke will hit the road for the second-straight week to take on an ACC opponent, this time Louisville. The Blue Devils need a bounceback win desperately, and a victory against the upstart Cardinals would be a major boon to their chances to reach the ACC title game in December.
