Duke Black Student Alliance hosted a Black Caucus at White Lecture Hall Wednesday night, where students shared campus grievances and discussed potential solutions. BSA Advocacy and Black Caucus co-chairs Avery Smedley and Sarah Hasan, both sophomores, and the Advocacy and Black Caucus committee organized the event.




Don’t Waste Durham highlights proposed disposable bag fee, environmental injustice of waste management

Local nonprofit Don’t Waste Durham and the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic discussed research about their single-use bag fee proposal and a Durham litter survey in a Wednesday event at the Durham Bottling Co. The proposal would implement a 10 cent fee on paper and plastic bags in hopes of reducing disposable bag usage.

Elizabeth Clark, John Carlisle Kilgo professor emerita of religion and professor of history at Duke, passed away on Sept. 7 at the age of 82. She is remembered for her strong advocacy for women, whether it be through inspiring colleagues and students or transforming the field of patristics through the use of cultural, social and feminist theory.
