BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 8 Blue Devils delivered a heartbreaking Valentine’s Day loss to Virginia Tech Sunday, defeating the Hokies 65-53 at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg. An unyielding defense plus a fiery offense sparked by junior Jasmine Thomas proved to be a winning combination for the No. 10 Blue Devils this week at the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico. Duke (5-1) gave previously unbeaten Western Kentucky its first loss of the season, rolling past the Lady Toppers 70-47 Thursday. It was more of the same Friday, as the Blue Devils thumped Marquette 74-43.

Duke posted strong efforts both offensively and defensively, but was unable to secure the win against the Cavaliers (16-2, 3-2) in its last regular season contest.

Duke hopes for ACC turnaround at Virginia

In their last regular-season game of the year, the 13th-ranked Blue Devils travel to face No. 3 Virginia (15-2, 2-2 in the ACC) Saturday in Charlottesville, Va. The last time the two teams met was in the first round of last year’s ACC tournament, where Duke came away with a 5-2 loss. Head coach Beth Bozman, however, thinks that this year’s team is better prepared to secure a different outcome.
