Early this morning, two endorsement letters for Duke Student Government president were published this morning on our website that should not have been published. The two letters were received after our 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 deadline, stated in our endorsement policy. Although they were not published in print, the Chronicle editor who posts content onto the website Tuesday nights published those two endorsements in addition to the others that were received by deadline. The letters were removed from the site by 11:00 a.m. this morning. To give full disclosure, the Chronicle editor in question is also the DSG attorney general for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The Chronicle will be running endorsement letters for the 2012 Duke Student Government elections. From April 9 to April 11 we will publish endorsement letters for the positions of president, executive vice president and the five vice presidents. No endorsements will be published Thursday, April 12, the day of the election. The final deadline for endorsements will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 10.

Duke Police reported several acts of vandalism in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens Saturday morning.
At some time between Friday night and early Saturday morning, vandals damaged property in the lower terrace and rose garden of the gardens, according to a news release Saturday.
More than 40 terra cotta flower pots were destroyed, and a piece of sculpture on a fountain was damaged. A sign for the Asiantic Arboretum was also damaged. A jogger reported the damage to the Duke University Police Department Saturday morning. The damage has since been cleared.
An official damage estimate is not yet available, and University officials are still investigating the situation.
