About 10% of registered voters cast their ballots in Durham's primary municipal elections on Tuesday. The top two vote recipients in each category will go on to the election in November.
Here's how the candidates fared in each category, with all but about 56 precincts reporting as of Tuesday evening.
Mayor: Elaine O'Neal and Javiera Caballero
- Elaine O'Neal: 67.96%
- Javiera Caballero: 24.63%
- Jahnmaud Lane: 2.95%
- Rebecca Harvard Barnes: 1.73%
- Sabrina "Bree" Davis: 1.13%
- Daryl Quick: 1.06%
- Charlitta Burruss: 0.55%
- The incumbent is Steve Schewel, who is not seeking re-election.
Durham Council, Ward I: DeDreana Freeman (incumbent) and Marion T. Johnson
- DeDreana Freeman: 69.61%
- Marion T. Johnson: 26.82%
- Elizabeth Takla: 2.07%
- Waldo Fenner: 1.49%
Durham Council, Ward II: Mark-Anthony Middleton (incumbent), Sylvester Williams
- Mark-Anthony Middleton, 85.91%
- Sylvester Williams: 9.08%
- Robert Curtis Jr., 5.01%
Durham Council, Ward III: No primary
Only two candidates are running in Ward III: Leonardo Williams and AJ Williams. They will both automatically proceed to November's election. The incumbent is Pierce Freelon, who is not running for re-election.
