Five months after his squad won the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium, Duke head coach David Cutcliffe returned to the Bronx Friday for a different occasion.
Cutcliffe threw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the New York Yankees’ meeting with the Chicago White Sox Friday night at Yankee Stadium in New York. Cutcliffe’s appearance was part of the Yankees’ Duke Blue Devil Fan Day, which featured discounted tickets for Duke alumni, fans and students.
The Yankees invited Cutcliffe and Blue Devil supporters to Yankee Stadium to honor Duke’s 44-41 overtime win against Indiana in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl Dec. 26. The victory marked Duke’s first postseason bowl win since 1961.
