HALFTIME: Duke 43, Florida State 30

Despite a sluggish start with nothing falling in the opening minutes of play, the Blue Devils appear to have found their shooting strokes.

No. 15 Duke leads Florida State 43-30 at halftime at Cameron Indoor Stadium Thursday night, thanks to 18 points from the combined efforts of Grayson Allen and Matt Jones, who contributed four of the team's seven first-half 3-pointers.

The Blue Devils missed their first nine shots from the field before Allen got them back on track with eight straight points. He soon had help from his friends on the perimeter, as freshmen Brandon Ingram and Derryck Thornton each knocked down triples during a 13-6 run that helped Duke take control of the game.

The Blue Devils managed to contain Seminoles’ top offensive threats guards Malik Beasley and Dwayne Bacon, limiting the ACC’s top freshman scoring duo to 13 points at the buzzer. Florida State's third offensive weapon—sophomore Xavier Rathan-Mayes—did not attempt a shot until late in the first half, and scored just two points, both of them from the free-throw line.

Here are some observations from the half:

  • Both Matt Jones and Derryck Thornton appeared to have shaken off their injuries from last week to reclaim their spots in the starting lineup. The pair picked up 13 points in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Allen scored Duke’s first eight points. Another Blue Devil did not join him on the scoreboard until freshman Luke Kennard hit a jumper with 13:42 left to play in the half.
  • Chase Jeter provided a huge spark for Duke off the bench, scoring three points, drawing a charge and grabbing five rebounds in his limited time on the floor.
