Duke women's basketball preview: Faith Suggs

Faith Suggs

  • Year: Freshman
  • Height: 6-foot-1
  • Position: Guard/forward

Game Breakdown: Versatility is big part of what made Suggs such a highly touted recruit, and she has a rare combination of quickness and height that allows her to play shooting guard, small forward, or even power forward. The Flossmoor, Ill., native has a fluid long-range shot when she plays under control, but she can also crash the boards and finish on the inside as well. As Suggs gains confidence and starts to adopt a bigger role on the team, she will become a nightmare for defenses to plan against.

Just as Suggs can play multiple positions on offense, she can also defend almost anybody on the floor, which makes her a valuable asset for the Blue Devils. Standing at 6-foot-1, her height could create challenges for power forwards in the post, while she also has the length and quickness to stay in front of opponents on the wing.

Role on the Team: Although Duke has a surplus of guards that will compete for playing time this season, Suggs' versatility may distinguish her and allow her to see the floor more than the others. Suggs will likely come of the bench and be a valuable role player. The freshman could be a power forward in small-ball lineups or she could help stretch the floor with her shooting in bigger lineups featuring Azura Stevens, Kendall Cooper and Amber Henson in the post.

Projected Statline: 8.1 PPG, 4.0 APG, 3,2 RPG, 1.8 SPG
