Duke football releases 3 new uniforms for 2014 season

A new look is hoping to emulate old success.

Duke football announced on its social media pages today that the team will wear special uniforms this season to commemorate the program's 1989 ACC Championship team. The squad, led by current South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, was the last team to at least clinch a share of the conference title.

A short video posted online showed that the 1989 team's jersey's will come in traditional colors of white and blue, but will also incorporate the team's black uniforms into the special design. The team only recently introduced black uniforms and helmets in 2011 and black helmets in 2012. Seniors Anthony Boone, Jamison Crowder, Laken Tomlinson, David Helton and Kelby Brown were shown sporting the uniforms in each different style.

A number of other players took to Twitter, modeling the new look in addition to the senior leaders.

As of 9:30 a.m. Monday morning the uniforms were not for sale to the public on the Duke Stores website.

The new uniforms come almost a month and a half before Duke begins the 2014 season, in which it will try to follow up a 10-4 2013 campaign that landed the Blue Devils in the ACC Championship game. Duke kicks off the season against Elon on August 30 at 6 p.m.
