Duke basketball career highlights: Todd Zafirovski

This week on The Blue Zone we will be running down the top three performances from the 2013-2014 season of each of the departing Blue Devils. Today, we take a look at Todd Zafirovski, recapping the best moments of his career.

Todd Zafirovski, Forward, Graduate Student

Honorable Mention: March 18, 2011 vs. Hampton:

Zafirovski didn’t enter the scoring column in this game, but he did get to say that he played in the NCAA tournament in Duke’s opening round blowout against the Pirates. The Lake Forest, Ill. native registered a "double trillion" in the game—meaning he played two minutes and accrued no stats. His monumental exclusion from that year’s "One Shining Moment" montage still irks true Blue Devil fans to this day.

3. Nov. 19, 2011 vs. Colgate:

It was the game that launched 1,000 chants. In Zafirovski’s first extended appearance on the big stage of Cameron Indoor Stadium, he played four minutes. Again, he accrued no other stats (and yes, that’s a “quadruple trillion”). This was Zafirovski's second straight game playing as the “human victory cigar,” and was emblematic of his future with the Blue Devils.

2. Dec. 19, 2012 vs. Cornell:

Zafirovski exploded for a career-high three points, making his only field goal attempt and splitting a pair of free throws. He also tied a career high with one rebound. Even more noteworthy was that he managed this in just four minutes of play, meaning that he was on pace for a 30-point, 10-rebound performance had he played all 40 minutes.

1. Dec. 1, 2012 vs. Delaware

It was the moment the walk-on had dreamed of since the start of his career. In the first appearance of his third year with the program, his senior year, Todd “The Macedonian Nightmare” Zafirovski wasted no time getting his name in the box score. Technically, he missed his first shot from the field, but when he got the ball a second time, he wasted no time entering the scoring column, demonstrating solid fundamentals and layup form that would make George Mikan proud. Cameron erupted.
