2014 NCAA tournament preview: Gonzaga

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Head coach: Mark Few (15th season)

Record: 28-6

Season summary: Coming out of the weak West Coast Conference, the Bulldogs blew through conference play, racking up a 15-3 record. Gonzaga’s non-conference schedule was not very difficult, as the only ranked team it faced was then-No. 24 Memphis—the Bulldogs lost 60-54. While its schedule may not have been overly impressive, Gonzaga still managed to win 28 games and currently boasts a starting lineup that has four players averaging more than 10 points per game. The Bulldogs ended the season with the fifth-best shooting percentage in the nation at 49.8 percent.

How they make a run: The Bulldogs catch Oklahoma State on one of its off-shooting days and use their ability to knock down quality shots to propel them through the tournament.

How they falter: Gonzaga fails to shut down Marcus Smart and Markel Brown, as the Cowboys blow through the Bulldog defense for 80-plus points.
