2014 NCAA tournament preview: Creighton

Creighton Bluejays

Record: 26-7

Head coach: Greg McDermott (3rd season)

Season summary: In their first season as a member of the new Big East, the Bluejays lived up to the hype, finishing second in both the regular season behind Villanova and in the Big East tournament after losing in the final to Providence. Creighton’s shining beacon of light is senior forward Doug McDermott—aka Dougie McBuckets, aka the next Larry Bird. McDermott, who was unanimously named the Big East player of the year and is a favorite to win the 2014 John R. Wooden Award, is finishing off what can only be described as one of the greatest college basketball careers of all time. McDermott currently ranks fifth on the all-time NCAA scoring list and depending on how well he and his Bluejays play in the tournament could finish his career as high as second.

How they make a run: McDermott remains hot and continues to knock down threes like its nothing, carrying Creighton deep into the tournament with a Stephen Curry-like performance.

How they falter: Creighton's supporting cast is unable to support its star and McDermott is stifled by double- and triple-teams.
