HALFTIME: Duke 35, Elon 18

No. 7 Duke made the short trip to Greensboro, N.C. for its final non-conference contest before beginning ACC play at Notre Dame later this week. Elon just couldn't find its jumper in the first half, shooting a paltry 30.4 percent from the floor. The Blue Devils were led by Jabari Parker and Andre Dawkins for the second consecutive game. Parker ended the half with six points and seven rebounds and Dawkins added 12 points.

Observations

  • Elon could not find the range from the floor in the early going, starting the game shooting a mere 1-for-8.
  • Jabari Parker asserted himself on the boards immediately, grabbing five rebounds in the first five minutes.
  • Elon committed 12 first half turnovers.
  • Josh Hairston made an impact, drawing two first-half charges.
  • Andre Dawkins was his usual sharp-shooting self, knocking down four triples in the first half.
  • The Phoenix's leading scorer Lucas Troutman managed just four points in the half. He averages 15.5 on the season.
  • Rodney Hood and Quinn Cook continued to struggle scoring the ball, combining to shoot just 3-for-14 from the floor.
  • Marshall Plumlee scored four points in the first half, or in other words, two more points than he scored all of last season. He did miss his free throw however, making him 0-for-13 from the charity stripe in his career.
