Duke in the NBA: Irving named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Miles Plumlee, Phoenix Suns: The Suns five-game winning streak may have been snapped by the Spurs on Wednesday, but Miles had another solid game, scoring 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The Suns have been a pleasant surprise in the NBA this season as they currently find themselves in playoff contention, and Plumlee’s solid play this season has certainly contributed to their success.

Mason Plumlee, Brooklyn Nets: Mason may not be getting consistent minutes this season, but his playtime during those minutes has certainly been consistent. Mason continued to shoot the ball efficiently in games against the Pistons and and 76ers, and also had eight rebounds against the Sixers, but did not see any action in the Nets loss against the Wizards.

Gerald Henderson, Charlotte Bobcats: Henderson continued his solid play last week, averaging 13.5 points per game. His best performance came in a win against the Kings, in which he scored 20 points, along with five rebounds and five assists.

Josh McRoberts, Charlotte Bobcats: While McRoberts’ offensive production dropped off slightly from last week, his efficiency was much better, as he shot 53.8 percent. Additionally, he continues to demonstrate a solid all around game, as he averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game last week. McRoberts is also fifth in the league in assist/turnover ratio with a 3.62 ratio. He is the only non-point guard in the top-19 in the category, which is quite impressive.

Elton Brand, Atlanta Hawks: Brand continues to be a part of the Hawk’s rotation, and had his best game of the season in a win against the Lakers on Monday. Brand scored eight points, had seven rebounds, and added three blocks in just 17 minutes. If Brand can put in more performances like that, he should continue to get consistent playtime.

Carlos Boozer, Chicago Bulls: Boozer had a week to forget, as the Bulls went 1-4 as they continue to slide without Derrick Rose. Boozer failed to score double digits in losses to the lowly Magic and Raptors. He was particularly bad against Toronto, going just 4-of-18 from the field for eight points. Boozer picked it up late in the week, scoring 17 in a loss to the Rockets, but had just 10 points on 2-of-7 shooting against Oklahoma City the following night.

Luol Deng, Chicago Bulls: Luol Deng returned from an unspecified Achilles injury that sidelined him for four games, and didn’t miss a beat on his return. Deng averaged over 20 points per game in the three games he played this week, including a 26 point, eight rebound performance against the Magic. He did not play the second game of a back-to-back and thus sat out the final Bulls' game of the week.

Mike Dunleavy, Jr., Chicago Bulls: Dunleavy’s minutes went down with the return of Luol Deng, but Dunleavy continued to provide solid bench production for the Bulls. Dunleavy averaged 12 points per game this past week on 44.9 percent shooting this past week.

Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers: Kyrie Irving may have been outplayed by rising star Damian Lillard, but Irving still put up an amazing performance in the fourth quarter. Irving scored or assisted on the Cavaliers' last 11 points to erase a nine-point deficit and tie the game before Lillard’s game winner. Previous to that game, Irving put up 19 in a loss to the Heat and 31 in a win over the Magic, as he continues to improve over the year. Irving's stellar play earned him Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

JJ Redick, Los Angeles Clippers: Redick remains out with a broken right hand and torn ligaments in his wrist. He will remain out for the next 4-6 weeks.

Ryan Kelly, Los Angeles Lakers: Ryan Kelly finally got off the bench to play some garbage-time minutes for the Lakers in losses to the Hawks and the Thunder. Kelly scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in five minutes against the Thunder, and was unable to find the bucket in seven minutes against the Hawks. Still, he must be happy to finally step on the court for the Lakers.

Shane Battier, Miami Heat: Following a poor week shooting the ball, Battier attempted just two shots this past week. He scored only two points for the entire week, to go along with three rebounds, and two blocks. Battier’s lack of offensive production doesn’t matter though, as he continued to play solid defense as the Heat went 3-0 this past week, including a big win over the Pacers.

Kyle Singler, Detroit Pistons: Singler had another up and down week, as he started off with 16 points in a win over the Nets, but then failed to score more than five points in his next two games. He ended his week with 11 points in a win over the Celtics.

Austin Rivers, New Orleans Pelicans: Rivers scored a season high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench in the Pelicans’ loss to Denver. However, Rivers was not able to follow up his stellar play, scoring 11 points on 4-of-12 shooting against the Warriors, although he did play a season-high 27 minutes. These high minutes won’t continue for Rivers though, as Tyreke Evans returned to action on Wednesday, having been sidelined with a sprained ankle.

Eliot Williams, Philadelphia 76ers: Williams followed a one-minute outing this week with a season high 22-minute showing, in which he scored seven points. He had a good game against the Nets later in the week, scoring 10 points and two assists in 19 minutes in the 76ers' loss.
