Ticket prices are high for the Champions Classic

Thanks to Will Flaherty and the people over at SeatGeek, The Chronicle has access to data on the secondary market for tonight's Champions Classic, which features No. 1 Kentucky, No. 2 Michigan State, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Kansas. Below are the staggering statistics for the event, which will be held at the United Center in Chicago tonight.

  • Fans are paying $366 per ticket on the secondary market to see the Champions Classic, up from $162 a year ago at the Georgia Dome and $231 more than the tickets for the first Champions Classic held at Madison Square Garden.

    Tickets to the Champions Classic are the most expensive November basketball tickets since tracking for that statistic began in 2010.
  • The cheapest tickets to tonight's event are now $177. Those seats, in the corner of the arena, had face value prices between $39 and $65.
  • The most expensive pair of tickets purchased—for $7000—is more expensive than a semester's tuition for an in-state student at Kentucky or Kansas.
  • Only one percent of the traffic at SeatGeek for the Champions Classic has come from North Carolina, with 10 percent from Michigan and 30 percent from the host state Illinois.
