Proposal for Institute in Amsterdam just rumor

Although DutchNews reports that Duke is examining the possibility of establishing an institute of technology in Amsterdam, the claims are untrue, said Michael Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs and government relations.

The city council of Amsterdam began accepting applications for a new institute at the beginning of April and has now cut a list of 13 finalists down to five, according to DutchNews. The DutchNews website claims that the University is part of a proposal to create an Amsterdam School of Health and Technology, with the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development as a partner.

Although Duke was approached by a representative developing the proposal, Duke never accepted the proposal and is not a finalist, Schoenfeld said.

Correction: A previous version of this article said the University is part of a proposal to create an Amsterdam School of Health and Technology. The University did not accept the proposal when approached. The Chronicle regrets the error.
